Joseph P. Carlino, LCSW-R, CP
Welcome!
When I am in session with you, I am completely focused on you and your needs. Therapy is a special time for you to sort out your needs, wants, and emotions in a safe way. I’m a Vietnam-era veteran who has worked with combat veterans with severe PTSD combined with alcoholism and drug dependence for more than three decades. Combat trauma and childhood trauma are frequently entwined within and can create many life problems. Let me help you sort that out on your journey to healing. I consider my sessions with you sacred space and a place for healing. Owning your story takes courage and is an integral part of the journey towards transformative change.
I know how scary it can be to ask for help and make that first appointment. Therapy is a place to talk about those inner thoughts and emotions that you normally keep to yourself. I specialize in trauma, depression, anger management, self-esteem, and LGBTQIA+. Helping you work through shame, guilt, and anxiety is paramount for recovery and healing.
My therapy sessions will be designed and tailored for you within the first three meetings. I believe that therapy should provide a safe space for you to process and make meaning of your life—past, present, and future—with a goal towards a life worth living. I am here to form a strong relationship with you, to be genuine, compassionate, and authentic.
Please note that I work exclusively online with individuals; group work is done in person. To learn more about couples therapy and the groups I offer, please click on the Groups tab in the menu bar above or see the Groups heading on my Psychology Today page.
